Come along with us across Napa Valley

Come join us in Napa!

As the Polar Vortex descends from the Artic across a huge hunk of the Midwest, I take the only reasonable action I can. Our local forecast for here is a high of -10 and at our ‘northern cellar’ it is currently a truly damn cold -31. So, since I am not a huge fan of ice wines, I’m bringing out our VinGardeValise and packing up for a trip to the Napa Valley!

Polar Vortex

I invite you to come along, at least vicariously!

When the mercury really hits it nadir, I’ll be heading westward!  Westward-ho to world class wines, great food, gorgeous vistas, and far more comfortable temperatures! Not only is it warmer than here, but visiting the Valley in the ‘off season’ offers a better opportunity to avoid the crowds, spend more quality time with winery teams, and (always important) do so at lower price points for airfares and lodging.

This trip will be a short one, but I promise to bring it to you via the DP Wine Cellar website, FaceBook page, and of course Instagram.

One of the dilemmas I always struggle with in planning a trip to Napa is what I want the focus of the trip to be. Should it be for returning and renewing ties with some of our favorite wineries or to look forward and focus on new wineries, wines, people, and experiences? We can’t do justice to both on our typically short trips so we pick one or the other.

This trip NEW won out with one caveat.

We’ll be trying out new lodging for half the trip, a new driver since our last one was disappointing, visiting 17 wineries, and enjoying dinners with some new, for us, vintners.

Oh, and the one caveat? One of the seventeen wineries is actually a return visit. Every trip we make to Napa, for good luck, tradition, whatever you may wish to call it, includes a return visit to one, specific winery. Who is it? You’ll have to stay tuned and follow us during our trip to find out who that is.   
